We make a serious effort to recycle and upcycle materials when possible to create interesting and creative spaces and details.

Restoration and Renovation of a traditional Pelio stone house built in 1896.

The stone house built in 1896 was in serious disrepair. A collapsed roof and years of neglect had rendered the house uninhabitable. Restorations were undertaken of the exterior and the roof using traditional materials and methods while the interior which was completely destroyed, was renovated using traditional and modern materials. Recycling and upcycling as many materials as possible in the interior renovation helped to create a distinctive living space. The quality of materials and craftsmanship make this a very unique home, with attention to detail found in every corner.

Restoration of the facades of a typical stone house built in 1950's in Volos, Greece.

The owners of this typical stone house from the 1950’s in Volos wanted to restore the building’s facade as it was starting to look pretty run down. All the stones and their joints were cleaned and repointed restoring the vitality of the building. Several rotting wooden lintels above the lower story windows were replaced with stone lintels which were recycled from old marble sidewalk curb stones. The corner stones were also replaced with recycled marble curb stones as the original corner stones were made of concrete and were starting to crumble and decay.

Restoration and adaptive reuse of an old flour and olive oil mill in Drakia, Greece. -Proposal

This project aims to restore the historical building through an adaptive reuse program providing new uses, while at the same time respecting the buildings past. One of the primary functions of the building will be to work, as it originally did, using hydro-power, only now it will work as a small scale hydroelectric power plant. The new building will use the old system of transporting water and with some modifications, will retrofit the old turbine, replacing it with a more modern Peltor Turbine.

The new additions and reuse of old spaces

have been designed as multi-purposes or

multiuse spaces with a flexible frame work.

Thus, the complex can be used as a conference

center, a space for workshops and seminars,

for weddings and baptisms, a place for cultural

events, and finally as a hostel, for hosting groups who might be interested in the beauty and history of the surrounding area (environmental groups, hiking groups, summer camps ect…), as well curious travelers. The hope is that by creating a diverse and multifunctional building, the building will be able to sustain itself for generations to come and continue on in its legacy.
